Teen admits rape in Kyle Sandilands, Jackie O 2Day FM stunt

29 07 2009

Original article

Background:

UPDATE 7.05pm: KYLE Sandilands says he was ’stunned’ and ‘horrified’ by the on-air revelation of a rape of a 14-year-old girl.

Why the issue is exaggerated and angry for the wrong reason:

  1. Speaking exclusively to The Punch, Sandilands said he was “side swiped” when the teenager revealed she had been raped as a 12-year-old while being grilled live on air and attached to a lie detector. -Thanks a lot mom.
  2. He said the segment was a “semi-regular” one on his radio show and that neither he nor fellow broadcaster Jackie O were aware of the girl’s claim before it began. -Fair.
  3. He said he was in New Zealand during the broadcast “and all I have is a microphone, a computer screen, and a camera that relays back to Jackie and the producers in the studio”.”To tell you the truth I was floundering around, signalling to the producers and Jackie – down the camera – indicating that we had to get it off air.”
  4. Sandilands’ first response to the horrifying revelation was, “Right, is that the only experience you have had?” -People say stupid retarded shit all the time when nervous and not 100% focused. Like when you reply to your waiter “You too” when he tells you to enjoy your meal. Give him a break.
  5. “I didn’t realise I had said ‘Have you had any other experiences?’”At the same time I was speaking I was signalling to Jackie that we had to terminate the segment. I went into a slight panic as how to get the thing off the air and I was more focused on making that happen than on what I said,” Sandilands said. But he stopped short of an explicit apology.

“As far an apology goes, the only person I feel sorry for is the girl. That what should have been dealt with as her private situation ended up being one of the biggest news stories of the day,” he wrote. -Exactly. This was never meant to go on air but was rather meant to be dealt with. Who wants to bet it would never have been touched if it didn’t go on air (i.e. the girl would have just bottled it up inside her).

  6. But Sandilands and Jackie O should be sacked for their on-air treatment of a 14-year-old rape victim, advocates say. -Should Toyota be banned from making cars because people die in them? Should people stop riding airplanes because there is the chance that the plane will crash and kill everyone on board?
  7. And the backlash against the broadcast of the rape victim being grilled while attached to a lie detector has seen others call the 2Day FM radio station’s licence to be revoke. -Take it easy. If they knew that, they would not have aired the program. Jesus.
  8. Kyle and Jackie O also appear as regulars on FoxFM in Melbourne. This morning, the teenager was strapped into a lie-detector and interrogated by her mother. -Could we try and not talk about the sensitive issues mum? Oh what is that? You do not give a fuck? Oh OK, please continue.
  9. When asked about her sex life, the teenager angrily said she had been raped about two years ago. -In which the mother already knew. Click here.
  10. Child psychologist Michael Carr-Gregg said 2Day FM should be shut down. -Overreaction seen a mile away.
  11. “This (incident) could potentially have some serious consequences on this girl,” Dr Carr-Gregg said. -Like she didn’t suffer enough already?
  12. “I would call on the Australian Communications and Media Authority to recall their radio licence. -Recall McDonalds for all the fat kids and ineffective parenting for all the ADHD kids out there.
  13. “I think FM radio has reached a new low.” -What is not a new low is girls and boys under 13 getting raped and abused.
  14. He also said that if the licence wasn’t revoked, Kyle Sandilands should be sacked. -So what is the word on the guy (I assume guy) that raped the girl? Does he get his licence from human rights revoked or what? Oh wait, no one cares, this is not about the girl, this is just an excuse to lead a shit storm over the radio hosts.
  15. Karen Willis, manager of the NSW Rape Crisis Centre, said she has never before heard of a sexual assault victim being put in such a public situation. -As if this has never ever happened before.
  16. “That poor little girl, being cornered like that and being forced to tell the truth,” Ms Willis said. -As I said above: Thanks mum?
  17. “People who have been sexually assaulted think that everyone is watching them and that they know.”The girl could be “devastated” by knowing that listeners around the nation knowing she was raped, Ms Willis said. -First of all, they do not know her; second of all, I am pretty sure she was devastated before this incident.
  18. “It’s shocking stuff. What (the show) might like to do now is publicly apologise.” -The mother should apologize.
  19. She also said the hosts should “redeem themselves” by airing rape counselling information and advice to victims. -They should do that anyway.
  20. The program’s producer referred questions about a possible apology to the girl onto the station’s publicity team, who have yet to return calls. The girl, 14,  was peppered with questions about whether she had ever had sex before she broke down on program, revealing the rape ordeal she endured at the age of 12. -The word peppered is inappropriate and gives the impression that she got asked 38 questions about her fetishes and sex toys collection.
  21. Under pressure from her mother to reveal if she had ever had sex, the girl broke down and revealed she had been raped. -What the hell were you thinking mum?
  22. The segment briefly continued with the girl’s mother admitting she knew of the rape before Jackie O intervened and shut the segment down. -Again what the hell?
  23. She then offered the girl and her mother counselling. A spokesman for  Community Services Minister Linda Burney said the Department of Community Services (DOCS) was seeking to speak with the girl’s mother. She said caseworkers wanted to provide urgent help to the girl to ensure she received counselling.

If police were not alerted at the time of the rape, the spokeswoman said DOCS would inform them now.

  24. Ms Burney also questioned the appropriateness of the segment for radio. -Blah blah blah. Supply and demand. No one cares about average. Everyone wants shock.
  25. She was believed to be furious after listening to the segment and said Sandilands and Jackie O were only interested in entertainment and shock value and not the girl’s welfare. -First of all, they did not know that the girl was raped. Second of all, it is just giving what the listeners want.
  26. The 104.1 2Day FM breakfast hosts heavily promoted the segment, which aired just after 8am today. On their website, the station boasts: “Cheating, drinking, lesbian marriage – we’ve revealed it all as we strap Sydney into the dreaded Lie Detector.’ -Who hasn’t cheated on a partner? Who hasn’t drunk? What is wrong with lesbians?
  27. The segment has also seen people are hooked up to the machine, while their partner, friends or family quiz them on masturbation, threesomes and STDs. -Everyone does it, many dream about it, many probably have it; respectively.
  28. Austereo general manager Jenny Parkes said: “2Day FM were saddened by the turn of events this morning.”In the normal course of preparing the segment all due care and consideration was given to the family and clearly we didn’t know anything about this traumatic incident.”The moment we became aware of it was live on air and we brought it to an end as soon as we possibly could.

“As is only appropriate, we are offering all the assistance we can to the family, including counselling, in what is of course an extraordinarily difficult situation.”

Balance:

  1. Who raped the poor girl? Father/Uncle/relative/sibling? Stranger? Was it reported to police when it happened? Why wasn’t the mother aware until a few months before today? Are charges laid?
  2. I am not a super big fan of the Kyle and Jackie O show. But as far as I see it, they did nothing wrong. Kyle made a slip in his wording but relax: accidents happen. It is a shame they didn’t find out more about the girl in the first place before they went on air.
  3. What the hell was the mom trying to achieve? Does she get paid for this in any way (i.e. more controversy means more prizes to be awarded by the radio show?)
  4. The girl did not have counseling at all after the horrible incident. Would she have had any in the future if this didn’t occur? Judging by the supportive mum, probably not.
  5. Hate Kyle for any other reasons you want. But do not castrate him on this incident.
  6. Finally, take note on the real issue here: The Kyle mixing up his wording is meaningless when the 12 year old girl getting raped comes into play. That is the real issue. That is what people should be yelling about. Not about Kyle and the fact that this was announced live.

British bush survivor’s dad feels ‘robbed’

27 07 2009

Original article

Background:

The father of a British teenager who survived 12 nights in the Australian bush is locked in a feud with his son over the money made from television appearances.

Why this article is a joke:

  1. Richard Cass, 54, said the relationship with his 19-year-old son Jamie Neale had turned “murderously nasty” over the cash he received for recounting his story, he told UK newspaper The Mail on Sunday. -You should be happy your son is alive you selfish greedy scum bag.
  2. The Mail on Sunday said Neale received $A100,000 for the television contracts they both signed, but the teenager has yet to hand over Cass’s slice of the money. -So why even have children to begin with? Let the kid enjoy the money, what the hell are you going to do with them? You made him so you eventually intend on giving everything to him (and if applicable, his other siblings). If not, just donate all your wealth after you die to charity. Simple.
  3. The north Londoner became lost on July 3 in the Blue Mountains, west of Sydney.”I feel I have been robbed by my own son,” Mr Cass is quoted as saying. -Looking at it another way: “He got the money; he decides whether he is generous enough to give you some money. Whether he does or not depends entirely on his character (which you partly molded him into).
  4. “I was so glad when he was found but it’s gone from being such a feelgood thing to being murderously nasty.”The son I found isn’t the son I went out to look for.” -Bullshit. He probably was always like this. Should have known better buddy.
  5. Mr Cass said he was not sure if he may not be on speaking terms with his son “for a very long time”. -Do you have any idea how ridiculous you sound? Family trumps money always. Well that should be the case.
  6. “He knows he’s got to give me some of the money and I will be happy,” he said. -Cuckoo cuckoo.
Crazy is another way to say it.

Crazy is another way to say it.

  7. “I want him to make that step that will enable us to reconcile. I feel terrible that this dark incident has now blighted Jamie’s return from the dead. -I guess you would have preferred if he was found dead and you would get to sell the story yourself hey? Rack up the publicity of your fake crying self all over the fricken tabloid that some of the demographic gobble up.
  8. “I would back down in that I don’t want to lose contact with him but it would gnaw away at me. I feel betrayed.” -OK try this. What is more important, your son or the money? If it is the son, forget about the money. There are more important things in life. Having said that, if you weren’t that close to begin with I can somewhat understand all this want to get as much moola as possible then to fuck off into obscurity.
  9. Cass said there was “an argument in Australia that says why should taxpayers pay for very expensive searches for idiots, especially foreigners, who don’t take proper precautions,” adding: “I feel tremendous sympathy with that view.” -Only saying this because you are yet again not getting what you want.
  10. Neale’s story made headlines around the world. Not yet well enough to fly, he is expected to remain in Australia for a further six to eight weeks.
  11. The teenager said: “I do not plan to get into a public slanging match with my father and will deal with any issues in private. -Exactly. This article never needed to sprout out. All that was needed was the “random international lost” and “random international found”. Sell the story to 60 minutes, make your money and move on. None of this extended crap.
  12. “I had an agreement with him regarding his involvement in the ‘60 Minutes’ interview — he wanted his flights and the rescue party paid for. -Fair enough.
  13. “I agreed to that and intend to honour that commitment. I am yet to receive the ‘60 Minutes’ money — it is due next week — but what I do with it is a matter for me.” -Exactly right.
  14. Some have accused Neale of staging his survival feat to secure a lucrative media deal but the teenager said his extraordinary story was not a hoax.He set off for a solo hike on July 3 but got hopelessly lost, eating only seeds and weeds with just a lightweight jacket for warmth in freezing overnight conditions. -I guess the thing the best thing he can say here is: “Prove it bitches!”

Balance:

  1. OK fair enough, $200,000 is a lot of money. But I reiterate that it is all up to the kid to decide. If he is nice, he can give you some. If not, then forget about it and move on.
  2. Call me old fashioned but as I mentioned above Family > Money. Simple as that. If I was the above, no argument would have ensued. In fact, I am sure my dad would have spent money and given me more to help me out prior to receiving the big cheque from 60 minutes to get me on my feet while I recover etc.
  3. This issue in general reminds me of the angry car driver hitting or missing the little kid. If the driver hits the kid he is sad and remorseful and feels a great deal of shame. If the driver does not hit the kid he will drive past, open the window, show the middle finger and yell out a few nice expletives for getting in the way.
  4. Similar in this, it seems like the rescue team (but more specifically the tax payers) would have preferred to find a dead body so that they can feel sorry for him rather than finding the stupid sod alive and hence yelling at him for being a dumb ass.
  5. Supply and demand. Why is 60 minutes paying him so much money? They know that the story is going to generate a lot of views which is only a good thing in the TV industry. Hence the fact that people actually give a crap about him is the reason he is getting paid which is the reason he is arguing with his dad which is the reason he is even appearing in the news after he was found alive! Too late now though.

Boy charged as adult after gang rape of girl, 8

25 07 2009

Original article

Why article like this deserves more coverage:

  1. ONE of four boys charged with raping an eight-year-old girl in the US state of Arizona last week will be prosecuted as an adult. -Well it makes sense, rape tends to be an adults only thing (for the ones that initiate the rape anyway).
  2. The details of the case have shocked local officials and provoked outrage across the United States after the parents of the young victim disowned her on grounds she had “shamed” her family. -Well this sentence will release the intended response from me (and I presume many others): Fucking idiots should never have had children since they clearly have no brains. They deserve to have no more under their care.
  3. Officers responding to screams from an empty shed in an apartment complex on July 16 found the partially-clothed girl and four boys aged 9 to 14 running away. The four boys had lured the girl into the shed with chewing gum. -It is that easy. Keep an eye out for your children at all times.
  4. They held her down and took turns raping her for about 10 to 15 minutes, according to Phoenix police. -Blame the rapists, blame the parents of said rapists. Blame the careless parents of the poor raped girl. But don’t blame the poor innocent girl.
  5. The girl’s parents shocked officers when they said she had brought shame to the family and did not want her back. -OK so no need to be repetitive. We got this at the start.
  6. “This is a deeply disturbing case that has gripped our community,” Maricopa County lawyer Andrew Thomas said.”Our office will seek justice for the young victim in this heartrending situation.” -Well yeah, that is the usual course of action.
  7. The girl is now in the custody of Arizona Child Protective Services. No charges will be filed against the parents, police said. -Since they are perfectly fine in every shape and form. Oh apart from being fricken idiots.
  8. “They didn’t abandon the child,” Phoenix police sergeant Andy Hill said. -Well not literally no. But they did set the train wreck that will become the poor little child’s life. I sure hope she has some strong support after this.
  9. “They committed no crime. They just didn’t support the child, which led to CPS coming over there.” -Again, if CPS wasn’t all over the case by now, that is when you should start getting worried.
  10. The oldest boy, a 14 year-old, will be tried as an adult on charges of kidnapping and sexual assault. The other three boys – aged 9, 10, and 13 – were charged as juveniles with sexual assault and kidnapping. -So all 4 did the exact same crime. One will get a more serious sentence than the other 3. Ageism right there. Makes absolute no sense. All should be charged as adults and frankly lose all their rights. When I was 9 or fricken 10, raping someone was the last thing on my mind. How messed up do you have to be to do such a horrible thing? Thanks a lot ma and pa.
  11. “We’ve had young people who have been victims of sexual assault, but the thing that distinguishes this is the age of the victim, the age of the suspects and the response of the parents,” Sergeant Hill said.People from across the US had called wanting to adopt the child or provide money, he said. -That is nice.
  12. “It’s been unbelievably fantastic in terms of support for the child,” he said. -The least you would expect.
  13. “People from eight or nine states have called.”

Balance:

  1. I feel the parents are yet again to blame for this. Parents of the 4 boys that is. Shame we don’t have more info on them though. Are they religious? White trash? Criminals? Do they even have parents?
  2. Same for the parents of the poor little girl. Are they scum? Religious? Criminals? Were the parents abusive themselves?
  3. The biggest blow (at least in the long run) is the lack of support from the parents.
  4. I hope the girl gets good foster parents. The “biological” parents should lose all rights to her and never ever communicate with each other.
  5. Like many other news stories, I can see that there is more to this story than what we are shown. Did the boys know this girl? Did the families know each other? Were they related? Did they spend a lot of time with each other before this? Did the parents know of these 4 boys? Where the boys messed up to begin with (e.g. animal abuse, fire starting, etc.)? Did the parents always let the girl roam around on her own? Was this a country town or a major city? What are the reasons for the parents disowning the girl? She is no longer pure?
  6. What punishment do the “boys” deserve? Will there be any chance of rehabilitation? Do they even know what rehabilitation means? Will sending them to jail solve the problem? Will they ever be functioning members of society or is this just the start of their messed up existence? Once released from jail what then? Will everything go back to normal?  Will they ever think about doing what they did?

Schapelle Corby ‘in and out of lucidity’

24 07 2009

Original article

Why this article is a joke:

  1. DRUG smuggler Schapelle Corby is so traumatised by her time in jail that she has lost all touch with reality and sometimes even thinks she can walk out any time. -No one cares. This type of story very much forms the basis of why I think the media does indeed suck!
  2. Her condition has so shocked her family they are begging the Australian Government to send a psychiatrist to Bali to assess Schapelle and try to bring her back home for medical care, The Daily Telegraph reports. -Haha nice try. If she gets special privileges so should the many other Australians currently serving a prison sentence throughout the world (that no one cares about apparently).
  3. Corby’s uncle Shaun Hatton has approached broadcaster Alan Jones to put pressure on the Government, while sister Mercedes is understood to be making requests via the official channels. -She is a convicted drug smuggler. The trial concluded that. They gave her a sentence. There is nothing more you can do.
  4. Mr Hatton said that when he visited Corby last month in a Bali hospital she sat on the floor for an hour and a half, saying nothing and holding a child’s toy. -Yeah, prison isn’t meant to be happy fun time.
  5. “She goes in and out of lucidity – she’s not lucid,” he said.”At one stage she sat on the floor with my daughter’s stuffed frog that plays tunes and she was there holding it for 90 minutes without moving.” -”Oh poor me, life sucks” card chosen.
  6. Mr Hatton said he visited Corby for four or five hours a day for the three days he was there and did not see a doctor the entire time. -OK so? What do you want from them? She is not in intensive care.
  7. She would slip into delusional states in which she would think she could just walk out of custody.”She thinks she can hop up and go, she’d just start to get ready. She’d change her clothes and say ‘let’s go’,” he said. -I call bullshit.
  8. “And we’d have to say, ‘No Schapelle, you can’t’.” -16 years will go by so quickly. Just think of all the money you will make from the publicity of you being released (60 minutes etc.).
  9. Mr Hatton, a Darwin real estate agent, said Corby still maintained her innocence and lived in hope that new evidence would emerge. -Yeah, the world is against me! I wouldn’t smuggle dope into a country no no no.
  10. “Every day she thinks the nightmare’s going to finish. Now she’s not thinking lucidly at all,” he said. -Redundant repeat.
  11. “She will not admit guilt because she’s not guilty.” -Like everyone else that goes in prison. Sadly it is a bit hard to distinguish those that are truly innocent and those that are guilty. But we must do with the legal system.
  12. Jones has vowed to take up Corby’s cause. -Waste of time.

Balance:

  1. Yes it is sad that she is in prison. But according to the Indonesian trial, she was found guilty and is required to spend those 20 years behind bars. The ruling might be harsh compared to the pansy rulings of the Western World but that’s what you get.
  2. Think of what is more likely: She got caught or someone set her up?
  3. While you think of her or feel sorry for her, think of all the other drug dealers out there currently serving time.
  4. While I thoroughly agree that this is in no ways newsworthy I suspect that it gets lots of clicks/views anyway and hence why the media still keeps making posts about it. Please consider pausing for a year or two though, there surely has to be better things out there?

Aussies hate nuclear power, say Greens

23 07 2009

Original article

Why this article is a joke:

  1. AUSTRALIANS hate nuclear power stations, according to Greens leader Bob Brown. -One picture says a thousand words:

  2. Mining giant Rio Tinto has reportedly urged the Federal Government to consider nuclear power as a way to meet climate change targets. -Sure why not. It is cleaner than coal and more efficient than other renewable forms of energy.

  3. In a submission to a Government white paper on energy, Rio Tinto said there were questions over the viability of renewable energy due to high costs. -It is expensive true. Until more money is spent on it or oil/coal becomes a hell of a lot more expensive, the world will be sticking to fossil fuels sadly.

  4. Senator Brown said Rio Tinto was in the business of promoting nuclear power, but Australians didn’t want it. -Who says Australians don’t want it? Where is the statistics on this?

  5. “Australians hate the idea of nuclear power stations,” he said. -It is kind of like me saying: “Australians hate the idea of homosexuals.” Unverified and no proof is needed since the above claim is also unverified.

  6. “Coal and nuclear are both last century. This is a century of renewables”. -Nuclear will be part of the future actually. It is called nuclear fusion (which if not invented in this century for commercial use will in the future).

  7. Senator Brown said both coal and nuclear power were dirty and “in the long term very dangerous to human life on the planet”. -Nuclear is very clean actually. Minimal run off, large amounts of energy is produced, accidents are nonexistent apart from Chernobyl and other minor non-important incidents. The danger lies in humans killing each other with nuclear weapons, which frankly do not need nuclear power plants to achieve that aim (what, the uranium is just going to stay in the ground if there are no nuclear power plants? – Yeah right).

  8. Renewable energy was cheaper for Australia and could be developed more quickly than nuclear power, he said. -If that was the case, then we all wouldn’t be arguing about the issue. Just do it!

Balance:

  1. If stats show the above individuals claims to be true, then fair enough. Seems odd to exclude a source though doesn’t it?
  2. I have nothing against the Greens party or their leader. In fact, I like a lot of their initiatives but being against nuclear energy is stupid. I guess I shouldn’t be surprised though right?
  3. A combined approach will be needed to tackle the energy demands of the future. I.e. both nuclear and renewable energy sources will be required. As time moves on hopefully non-renewable energy sources will become obsolete (just pretend you haven’t heard of the fact that in China, a new coal powered power stations is being built every 10 days).
